New projects to boost 2009 gas output

Domestic gas production will increase in 2009 with several projects being expanded to allow higher output. Oil & Gas Development Company expects to complete soon commissioning of its expanded Qadirpur gas project offshore. This project will add another 1 bcm/year of gas to the current 6.7 bcm/year plateau production. Work at Qadirpur will include five more development wells and a wellhead compression project. Eni also plans to drill a further three wells in 2009 at the Kadanwari gas field. The K-19 well, which is due to be drilled in the second quarter, is targeting 1.4 bcm of gas reserves. Production from BHP Billiton's Zamzama North well is expected soon.Phase two of the Zamzama project was commissioned and came into production in December 2008. The second phase adds a further 50% capacity to the Zamzama gas plant, allowing it to handle up to 4.6 bcm of gas. Estimated reserves at Zamzama are 65 bcm.
