The Italian Ministry of the Environment has approved the environmental impact assessment for two offshore wind projects off the coasts of Emilia-Romagna, namely the Agnes-1-2 offshore wind projects totalling 700 MW off Ravenna and Energia Wind 2020's 330 MW offshore project off Rimini. The positive EIA will enable the projects to take part in auctions expected at the end of 2024.
In addition, SCS is submitting a 1,620 MW offshore wind project, Ulisse-1, off Monopoli, in the Puglia region. The project would consist of 108 wind turbines rated 15 MW each.
In June 2024, the European Commission approved a €35.5bn scheme to support the development of 4,590 MW of new renewable capacity in Italy. The scheme, running until the end of 2028 and financed through a levy on electricity bills, will support the construction of new geothermal, offshore wind power (floating or fixed), thermodynamic solar, floating solar, tidal, wave and other marine energy as well as biogas and biomass projects. Projects selected through a bidding process will secure a two-way contract for difference.
