New gas resources discovered in Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates)

Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) has discovered a new deeper reservoir in the first exploration well in Abu Dhabi's Offshore Block 2 Exploration Concession. Between 1,000 and 1,500 bcf (28.3 to 42.5 bcm) of raw gas would be in place. This discovery follows an initial finding in February 2022, raising the total amount of gas in place from this single well to 2.5 - 3.5 tcf (71 - 99 bcm). The Offshore Block 2 Exploration Concession is operated by Eni, in partnership with PTT Exploration and Production (PTTEP); partners were awarded the concession in 2019, as part of ADNOC's competitive block bid round.

Significant oil and gas resources were discovered recently. In December 2021, up to 1 Gboe was discovered in the Onshore Block 4 Exploration Concession operated by INPEX/JODCO, and in May 2022, ADNOC announced the discovery of approximately 100 mbl of oil in place in Abu Dhabi's Onshore Block 3, operated by Occidental.
