New Fortress Energy finalises agreements with CFE for a new LNG hub in Mexico

The US-based gas supply and infrastructure company New Fortress Energy (NFE) has finalised its agreements with the Mexican power utility Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE), which include the creation of a new floating LNG hub off the coast of Altamira, Tamaulipas province (northeastern Mexico). NFE will deploy multiple FLNG units of 1.4 Mt/year each that utilise CFE’s existing firm pipeline transportation capacity on TC Energy’s Sur de Texas-Tuxpan Pipeline to deliver feedgas volumes to NFE. The first LNG unit of the new hub is expected to be operational by mid-2023.

The agreements also include the selling of the 135 MW gas-fired La Paz power plant to CFE, as well as increased gas sales to CFE for its Baja California Sur power plants on Mexico’s west coast. The agreements were originally reached in July 2022.
