New environmental assessment certificate for Woodfibre LNG (Canada)

The Canadian project company Woodfibre LNG reported that its application to amend the environmental assessment certificate (EAC) for the construction and operation of the LNG export project (located in the District of Squamish near Vancouver, British Columbia) has been endorsed by the British Columbia Environmental Assessment Office (EAO). The original application was granted in October 2015 but several changes have been made since then in the front-end engineering design (FEED) of the facility. With this approval, Woodfibre LNG can implement the design changes and move forward.

In April 2017, the Canadian National Energy Board (NEB) awarded a 40-year export license for the project. It initially received a 25-year export license in December 2013, however, the new NEB regulations (and more specifically the NEB Act Part VI) increased the maximum term up to 40 years. The Canadian Federal Government approved it in March 2016.

The liquefaction plant is developed by Woodfibre LNG at the former Woodfibre Pulp and Paper Mill and will able to produce 2.1 Mt/year of LNG and to store 250,000 m3 of gas. The project final investment decision (FID) was made in November 2016.
