Siemens Energy has been awarded the contract for the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) of the 414 MW San Gabriel CCGT power plant in the Philippines. The customer is First NatGas Power, a 100% owned company of the Philippine independent power producer First Gen Corporation. Siemens will build San Gabriel as a turnkey facility and then operate it; the plant will be built in Batangas City, in the Calabarzon region. The heart of the power plant is the Siemens SGT6-8000H gas turbine (average efficiency of more than 60%). Commissioning is scheduled for March 2016. The order, including a long-term maintenance contract, is valued at about €395m.
It is expected that the demand for electricity in the Philippines will almost double from 22 GW of installed capacity to 42 GW by 2030. Due to the high price of natural gas, there is considerable demand for high-efficiency power plants.
