Mitsubishi, prime contractor of Minergy Coal Corporation, has awarded an EPC contract to Toshiba for the construction of a new coal-fired power plant in Balingasag, on Mindanao Island in the Philippines. The new plant, to be operated by Minergy, will adopt circulating fluidized bed boilers and have three 55 MW steam turbine generators, securing a total capacity of 165 MW. Toshiba will serve as EPC contractor for two of the three generators (Units 1 & 2), and as such will be responsible for plant’s design and engineering; the procurement and installation of major equipment, including boilers, steam turbines, and generators; and the balance of plant equipment, covering ancillary facilities such as coal conveying equipment, mechanical and electrical equipment and instrumentation; testing, trial operation and commissioning. Construction is scheduled to begin in February 2014 and Unit 1 and Unit 2 are expected to be completed by the end of January 2017 and March 2017, respectively.
