The Netherlands releases plan for nationwide 10 GW hydrogen network

The Dutch Ministry for Climate and Energy has unveiled new plans for the construction of a national transport network for hydrogen, which will be developed and operated by the state-owned gas transmission system operated Gasunie. The hydrogen network, which will have an initial capacity of 10 GW requiring an investment of €1.5bn, would connect the seaports with the large industrial clusters in the Netherlands and with storage locations for hydrogen. Connections with Germany (Ruhr area and Hamburg) and Belgium are also being envisioned. Around 85% of the network will consist of recycled natural gas pipelines. Commissioning is scheduled for 2027.

The Dutch government ambitions that electrolysis capacity reach 500 MW in 2025 and 3-4 GW in 2030.
