The Netherlands receives 26 bids for Borssele 3-4 offshore wind parks

The Netherlands Enterprise Agency has received 26 bids for the opening round for the subsidy and permit for sites III and IV of the Borssele wind farm zone. The tendering party or parties with the lowest bids that comply with all conditions will receive the subsidies and permits for the wind farms. The capacity of the Borssele 3 wind park will range between 322 MW and 360 MW, while that of Borssele 4 will range between 342 MW and 380 MW. The total tender will be capped at around 680 MW. This is enough to supply energy to approximately 775,000 average Dutch households.

In July 2016, Danish energy group DONG Energy was selected to build two 350 MW offshore wind parks, Borssele 1 and 2 as part of the first phase of the Borssele wind project. By 2020, about 1.4 GW of offshore wind capacity should be operational off Borssele. The third and fourth tenders are expected in 2017 and 2018 off the coast of South Holland. The fifth tender, off North Holland, is due in 2019. The Netherlands has capped maximum subsidies to be paid for the 2015 tender to €5bn.

According to its wind energy roadmap, the Netherlands aims to reach a total offshore wind capacity of 4,500 MW by 2023 and to generate 16% of its electricity from renewable energy sources by this date. The opening round thereby contributes to this aim.
