The 759 MW Hollandse Kust Noord offshore wind park, located about 18 km off the coast of the Netherlands and developed by CrossWind (a joint venture between Shell and Eneco) has produced its first power. Offshore construction of the project began in October 2022, while wind turbine installation started in April 2023. Commissioning is expected by the end of 2023.
The wind park consists of 69 wind turbines, each with a capacity of 11 MW, and will generate up to 3.3 TWh/year once fully commissioned. In April 2023, the power transmission system operator (TSO) TenneT announced that the Hollandse Kust Noord offshore wind park was ready for grid connection.
The Netherlands targets 21 GW of offshore wind capacity by 2030 and 70 GW by 2050. As of end-2021, approximately 2.5 GW of offshore wind energy had been fully commissioned. Currently, more than 2 GW of onshore and offshore wind power are under construction in the Netherlands, and nearly 13 GW are under development.
