Neoenergia, the Brazilian subsidiary of the Spanish energy group Iberdrola, has signed an agreement with PEC Energia to buy a portfolio of wind projects totalling 400 MW of potential capacity for a consideration of €13m (US$15m). The projects are located in Serra da Gameleira, in the state of Bahia. Neoenergia has an option to acquire other wind projects in the region.
In addition, the Brazilian Administrative Council for Economic Defence (CADE) has approved the sale by EDF Renewable of a 50% stake in two wind power plants with a total capacity of 183 MW to Omega Geração. The wind power plants are also located in the state of Bahia.
Wind accounts for around 9% of Brazil's installed capacity with over 15 GW (2019). As of September 2020, more than 4 GW are under construction and 33.8 GW are under development.
