Ncondezi secures land for a 300 MW solar projet in Mozambique

Ncondezi Energy has secured a land agreement for a 300 MW solar-plus-storage project in Tete, Mozambique, on the same site where the company is developing a coal mine and a 300 MW coal-fired plant. The land use agreement covers 950 hectares, enough to develop up to 500 MW of solar capacity. The engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for the coal-fired project was awarded in September 2021 to China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC), which would also ensure 60% of the equity investment. The company is now seeking another partner to fund and mine coal resources, which are estimated to reach 4 Gt.

Mozambique's installed capacity reached 3.3 GW at the end of 2021, with 70% of hydro, 20% of gas and 6% of oil. Over 2 GW of coal-fired power projects and over 600 MW of solar projects are under development in the country.
