Ncondezi Energy plans a 300 MW solar-plus-storage project in Mozambique

Ncondezi Energy has conducted preliminary study work for a 300 MW solar-plus-storage project in Tete, Mozambique, on the same site where the company is developing a coal mine and a 300 MW coal-fired plant. The engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for the coal-fired project was awarded in September 2021 to China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC), which would also ensure 60% of the equity investment. The company, which is currently discussing with CMEC on financing for the coal-fired project, could take a final investment decision (FID) in the first semester of 2022. The plant could be operational as of  2025.

Mozambique's installed capacity reached 3.3 GW end of 2021, with 70% of hydro, 20% of gas and 6% of oil.
