Nama PWP proposes new 1 GW solar PV project in Oman

Nama Power & Water Procurement Company (Nama PWP) has proposed a new 1 GW solar PV project as part of its strategy to meet 30% of Oman's electricity needs from renewable sources by 2030. Scheduled to launch in 2029 as two independent power projects (IPPs) with a total capacity of 500 MW each, the project provisionally named "Solar PV IPPs 2029" is the sixth large-scale solar PV project lined up by PWP.

The five other large projects by PWP are Manah I and Manah II (due to start up in 2025), MIS Solar IPP (planned for 2027) and Ibri II and Ibri III Solar PV IPP (already operating since 2021); all of which are planned to have a capacity of 500 MW. PWP's six projects altogether give a total projected capacity of 3.5 GW by 2029. Oman's renewable capacity is also set to be supplemented by several wind projects with a total capacity of 800 MW, the procurement of which is envisaged in the coming years.
