Nam Ngiep 1 Power awards contract for 291 MW hydro project (Laos) 

Obayashi (Japan) has been awarded a contract for civil engineering works of the Nam Ngiep 1 Hydropower Project in Laos. The project was launched by Nam Ngiep 1 Power, which consists of three sponsors: KPIC Netherlands (KPN), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Kansai Electric (Japan, 45%), EGAT International Company Limited (EGATi, 30%), subsidiary of Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand, and Lao Holding State Enterprise (LHSE, 25%), a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Government of Laos.

This hydroelectric project consists of two power stations of approximately 273 MW and 18 MW respectively. The preparatory works for road, river diversion, excavation for the dam foundation, temporary facilities for the dam, etc. will be executed from 2013 to 2015. Moreover, the concrete placement of the main dam body will be commenced in 2016. Power generation is scheduled to start in January 2019.
