Mozambique’s provisional NDC aims to cut GHG emissions by up to 25% by 2035

Mozambique has submitted to the UNFCCC the second update of its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC 3.0) for the 2026-2035 period (UNFCCC press release, 05/11/2025).

The document presents a preview on country’s ambitions for 2035, highlighting its objective of reducing emissions between 15 to 25% of its baseline (set in 2020, according to its Second Biennial Update Report).

The finalised NDC 3.0 is currently undergoing revisions and a consultation process before all the relevant stakeholders. It should include a specific quantified target of GHG emission reductions by 2035 which is pending due to a change of methodologies on the calculation of the GHG inventories. According to the NDC, total emissions stood at 91.3 MtCO2eq including LULUCF (30.6 MtCO2eq excluding LULUCF) in 2020.
