Mozambique awards exploration blocks in 5th Licensing Round

The Institute of National Petroleum (INP) of Mozambique has awarded six exploration and production concession contracts under the fifth competitive bidding round. A total of fifteen areas were included from within offshore Rovuma, offshore Angoche, offshore Zambezi, onshore Pande-Temane and onshore Palmeira. ExxonMobil E&P Mozambique Offshore won three E&P blocks, namely Angoche Area A5-B, Zambezi Area A5-C and Zambezi Area A5-D, while Eni was awarded the Angoche Area A5-A, Sasol Petroleum the Pande/Temane Area PT5-C block and Delonex Energy the Palmeira Area P5-A block.

ExxonMobil will be the operator of three blocks in partnership with Rosneft, while Eni will be the operator of the offshore block Angoche A5-A, with a 34% stake, in partnership with Statoil and Sasol (25.5% stake each) and ENH (15% stake). The company has been present in Mozambique since 2006 and is the operator of Area 4 with a 50% indirect quote, owned through its subsidiary Eni East Africa.
