Morocco's power generation rebounded by 6.5% in 2021

Electricity generation in Morocco increased by 6.5% in 2021 to 41.3 TWh, after a 3.9% drop in 2020, according to the Department of Studies and Financial Forecasts (DEPF) of the Moroccan Ministry of Economy and Finance. The state-owned power utility's National Office for Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) raised its power generation by 11.9%. In addition, private power generation increased by 5.3% and renewable generation by 5.2%. Morocco remained a net exporter of electricity for the second consecutive year in 2021, with exports 24% higher than imports. Electricity consumption increased by 5.5% in 2021 to 32 TWh, driven by large consumers (+9.7%), while electricity sales to distributors rose by 4.8% and sales to low-voltage customers grew by 2%.
