Morocco plans mandatory energy audit for energy-intensive companies

The Ministry of Energy of Morocco has issued a decree on mandatory energy audits for companies consuming more than 500 toe/year in the services, transport and energy distribution sectors and for industrial companies consuming more than 1,500 toe/year. The energy consumption threshold making energy audits mandatory for companies from other sectors will be set later. Concerned companies will have to transfer each year all their energy data to the energy efficiency agency, Agence marocaine pour l’efficacité énergétique (AMEE), and to realise the energy audit immediately after having informed the AMEE. Energy audits will be renewed every five years.

The July 2018 decree was initially expected after the adoption of the kingdom's energy efficiency law of 2011. The 2011 law planned energy audits for companies consuming more than a given threshold that was still to be specified.
