Morocco completes construction of the 210 MW Midelt wind project

The National Electricity Office (ONEE) of Morocco has completed the construction of the 210 MW Midelt wind project, which is located north-east of the town of Midelt on an area of 2,300 hectares. The construction of the Midelt wind plant required MAD2.5bn (US$282m) and construction lasted 24 months. The project is part of the 850 MW integrated wind energy programme, which comprises several wind power plants: Boujdour (300 MW), Tiskrad (Tarfaya, 100 MW), Midelt (210 MW) and Jbel Lahdid (Essaouira, 270 MW).

In December 2020, the ONEE, the Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (Masen) and the consortium of Nareva Holding and Enel Green Power signed contracts for the 270 MW Jbel Lahdid wind project in Essaouira in Morocco. The MAD2.8bn (US$316m) project is expected to be commissioned in phases as of the first half of 2023.

Morocco aims at reaching a 52% renewable share in total power capacity by 2030.
