Mitsui OSK Lines starts operations of FSRU for Indonesian LNG-fired project

Japan’s Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) has launched commercial operations of the floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) “Jawa Satu” to supply LNG to the Jawa 1 LNG-fired power plant in West Java (Indonesia). The FSRU Jawa Satu is operated by PT Jawa Satu Regas, a joint venture between Pertamina (26%), Marubeni (20%), MOL (19%), Sojitz (10%), and others minority partners. The FSRU has a 170,000 m3 storage capacity and a 8.5 mcm/day (3.1 bcm/year) regasification capacity for the 1,760 MW PT Jawa Satu-1 power plant l. Electricity generated by the plant will be supplied to PT PLN, Indonesia’s state-owned electricity company, for 25 years.

The 1,760 MW PT Jawa Satu Power is managed by PT Jawa Satu Power (JSP), a joint venture of Pertamina NRE (40%), Marubeni (40%) and Sojitz (20%). The project is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by 3.3 MtCO2/year.

At the end of 2022, Indonesia has a total installed capacity of 84 GW, of which gas accounted for 19 GW (23%).
