Japan's Mitsubishi Power has received an order for two M701F gas turbines (450 MW each), two steam turbines, and auxiliary equipment for the 900 MW expansion of the Talimarjan combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power plant, located in southern Uzbekistan. The order has been placed by the Spanish engineering group Intecsa Ingenieria Industrial. The Talimarjan expansion is scheduled to become operational in 2025.
The expansion of the Talimarjan power plant will allow the generation of an additional 7.2 TWh/year, which will provide power supply to consumers in the Samarkand and Bukhara regions, as well as to seven pumping stations on the Karshi canal. This is Mitsubishi Power’s second order for the power plant, as the Japanese company received an order for two sets of M701F gas turbines and generators for the power plant in 2013.
The Talimarjan power plant currently has a capacity of 1.7 GW, with a 800 MW steam turbine (commissioned in 2005) and two 450 MW CCGT units (provided by Mitsubishi and commissioned in 2016 and 2017). With the addition of the new 450 MW turbines, the power plant’s capacity will reach 2.6 GW.
In 2020, gas represented 58% of Uzbekistan’s installed capacity with 9.6 GW and 86% of its power generation with 53 TWh.
