Mitsubishi Power has been awarded a gas turbine order for the 2.4 GW Facility E CCGT power and desalination project in Qatar. The project, located in the Ras Abu Fontas area south of Doha, is led by the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (KAHRAMAA) in partnership with Ras Abu Fontas Power Company, with Samsung C&T as Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor. Commercial operation is expected in late 2028 or early 2029.
Under the terms of the contract, Mitsubishi Power will supply its M701JAC hydrogen-ready gas turbines and will provide parts, repairs and services under a long-term service agreement with Ras Abu Fontas Power Company. In December 2025, Doosan Energy had signed an US$88m contract with Samsung C&T to supply 430 MW steam turbines, two generators, and auxiliary equipment for the project.
Once operational, the project is expected to deliver approximately 16% of Qatar’s total electricity supply.
