Mitsubishi Power wins order for Saudi oil-to-gas power plant conversion project

Mitsubishi Power has received orders from Dar Al Balad Contracting and Operations (DAB), a local EPC (engineering, procurement, and construction) company, acting on behalf of Saudi Energy (SE), to supply key boiler components, as part of a project aimed at converting the Jeddah South and Shuqaiq power plants, each rated 2.9 GW and both located on Saudi Arabia's west coast from heavy oil to gas (Mitsubishi Power, 13/07/2026).

The power plants each consist of four units, for which Mitsubishi Power had supplied the existing heavy oil-fired boiler components. The conversion project will replace them with dual-fuel boilers capable of switching between and co-firing both natural gas and heavy oil. The company will also provide technical assistance to ensure the long-term stable operation of the power plants.

Under its national strategy "Saudi Vision 2030," Saudi Arabia aims to increase the share of gas-fired power generation to over 50%. The government has mandated domestic power producers, including SE, to accelerate fuel conversion plans at power plants.
