Mitsubishi Power will supply a CCGT for the 600 MW Navoi 3 project in Uzbekistan

The Japanese company Mitsubishi Power, a unit of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, has secured an order from JSC Thermal Power Plants to supply its M701JAC combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) system for the 600 MW Navoi-3 gas-fired power project, located about 360 km south-west of Tashkent, in Uzbekistan.

Mitsubishi Power had previously supplied CCGT power generation equipment for the nearby Navoi 1 (478 MW) and Navoi 2 (450 MW) units, which started operations in 2013 and 2019 respectively. Commercial operation for Navoi 3 is scheduled for 2026. The development of a fourth unit is also underway. The power plant is operated by Uzbekenergo.

As of end-2022, Uzbekistan had a total electricity capacity of 18 GW, which was dominated by gas (58% with 10.6 GW), followed by coal (15%), oil (15%), and hydropower (11%). Gas represented 88% of the country’s power generation in 2022, with nearly 66 TWh.
