Mitsubishi Power, a subsidiary of Japan’s Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, has completed the construction of a 1.4 GW gas-fired CCGT power plant located about 100 km west of Bangkok, Thailand. The Hin Kong power plant, a joint venture between the RATCH Group Public Company and the Gulf Energy Development Public Company, features two advanced M701JAC gas turbines. The first unit began commercial operations in March 2024 and the second 700 MW turbine has just begun commercial operations. Mitsubishi Power will provide long-term maintenance for the turbines under a 25-year Long Term Service Agreement (LTSA) and the project will supply electricity to the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) under a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA).
In October 2024, Mitsubishi Power had also completed the construction of a 5.3 GW CCGT power plant project in the Chonburi and Rayong Provinces of Thailand.
Natural gas is by far the first energy source for power generation in Thailand (67% in 2023).
