Mitsubishi Gas Chemical (MGC) has signed a purchase and sale agreement with ACME Group to offtake around 100 kt/year of green methanol from ACME’s project under development in Odisha (India), starting from commercial operations scheduled in 2030 (MGC press release, 03/07/2026).
The USD1bn deal supports ACME’s strategy to develop dedicated green methanol production infrastructure after advancing green hydrogen and green ammonia projects in India and Oman. The Odisha project forms part of ACME’s broader green molecules business, targeting hard-to-abate sectors such as shipping, chemicals and heavy industry.
MGC plans to use the green methanol for fuel and chemical applications in Japan and across Asia, supporting demand for lower-carbon materials and energy products. The company is developing its Carbopath platform to produce methanol from emitted CO₂, waste plastics, biomass and other sources, and use it as fuel, raw material and chemical feedstock.
