The Federal Commission of Electricity of Mexico (CFE) has announced that tenders would be held for twelve power and gas infrastructure projects worth US$3.3bn. These projects, to be developed by 2018, will add 1,000 km of gas pipelines, about 1,000 km of electricity transmission and distribution lines and 666 MW of new power capacity. The projects are the following:
- Samalayuca - Sásabe gas pipeline: the US$916m project will transport gas from the Waha region (Texas, United States) to the San Isidro - Samalayuca pipeline (in bidding process) and the Sásabe - Guaymas gas pipeline (under construction). Commercial operation is expected in June 2017
- gas supply of 19-170 mcf/d (196 mcm/year to 1.75 bcm/year) to the Baja California Sur power plants in the Baja California peninsula by June 2017 (investment of US$600m)
- Colombia - Escobedo gas pipeline, from Webb County (Texas, United States) to the northern and northwestern regions of Mexico; the US$450m, 250-km long pipeline will deliver 500 mcf/d (5.15 bcm/year) as of June 2017
- Tuxpan - Tula gas pipeline, to supply the central and western regions of Mexico; the US$350m, 237-km long pipeline will deliver 700 mcf/d (7.2 bcm/year) as of March 2017
- 666 MW Topolobampo III gas-fired CCGT power plant in Ahome (Sinaloa); the US$631m project, to be developed under the IPP scheme, will be commissioned by June 2018
- Northern System 706 (third phase): a new 115 kV electricity transmission line will be laid in Baja California, for an investment of US$17m, by September 2016
- Transmisión Sureste Peninsular 1905 (second phase): two 230 kV lines of 367 km will be laid in the states of Campeche and Quintana Roo, by January 2017 (investment of US$64m)
- Associated Transmission Network Empalme I CC 1811: seven transmission lines of 230 kV and 400 kV (421-km) to be installed in the state of Sonora by January 2017 for US$105m
- Associated Transmission Network Empalme II CC 1911: three transmission lines of 400 kV (118 km), in the states of Sonora and Sinaloa, for U$116m, by February 2017.
- Northern Distribution 1420 (second phase): a 115 kV line in the state of Sonora, worth US$7m, and expected in May 2016
- 721 Northern Distribution (3rd phase): a 115 kV line in the state of Chihuahua, worth US$12m, expected in June 2016
- Distribution Substation North - South 1621 (6th stage): a 115 kV line in the state of Yucatan, worth US$8m, expected in July 2016.
