Mexico will tender US$8bn Tabasco refinery project in March 2019

The Mexican government has announced plans to build the country's seventh refinery at the Dos Bocas port in Tabasco (Mexico). Approximately US$8bn will be invested in the new facility. The bidding process is set to start in March 2019 and commissioning is currently expected for 2022.

Once built, the Tabasco facility will have a crude oil processing capacity of 340,000 bbl/d, including 17 processing plants, 93 storage tanks and a link to the Dos Bocas maritime terminal. The refinery will produce 170,000 bbl/d of gasoline and 120,000 bbl/d of ultra low sulphur diesel. The completion of the project will help Pemex reach its crude processing target of 1.86 mb/d by 2022.

Meanwhile, state-run oil and gas company Pemex has unveiled overhaul plans at its six refineries (Hidalgo, Lara Sosa-Cadereyta, Madero, Salamanca, Salina Cruz and Lázaro Cárdenas-Minatitlan) in order to increase gasoline production, from 171,700 bbl/d to 600,000 bbl/d by mid-2020.
