Mexico seeks to accelerate the development of LNG export projects

Mexico plans to accelerate the development of new gas liquefaction projects to boost gas exports to Asia, Americas and Europe, urging the developers of proposed LNG projects to commit for their construction within a month. Three of the four concerned projects are located on the Pacific coast, namely the Sempra's 2.4 Mt/year Energia Costa Azul LNG project near Ensanada (Baja California), the Sempra's 4 Mt/year Vista Pacifico LNG project in Topolobampo (Sinaloa), a 1.5 Mt/year liquefaction project in Salina Cruz and one a liquefaction project on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico in Coatzacoalcos (Vera Cruz). Project companies would have a month to reach agreements on the projects with the Comision Federal de Electricidad (CFE), or the projects could be put out to tender.
