Mexico Pacific selects Sierra Madre LNG pipeline EPC contractor (Mexico)

The oil and gas company Mexico Pacific has signed an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract with GDI Sicim Pipelines and Bonatti for the construction of a 2.8 bcf/d (29 bcm/year) natural gas from the U.S. border to Mexico Pacific’s 15 Mt/year Saguaro Energia LNG export facility in Puerto Libertad, Sonora (Mexico). The Sierra Madre Pipeline Project is an 850 km pipeline that will be used as the primary natural gas supply path for the LNG terminal. In July 2023, the Government of the Mexican State of Sonora and Mexico Pacific signed a collaboration agreement supporting the Saguaro Energia LNG export facility, with operations scheduled to start in 2026.

Mexico has no LNG liquefaction capacity, but it does have several export projects under development. In addition to Mexico Pacific, Sempra Energy is developing two liquefaction trains with a total capacity of 14 Mt/year on the site of the existing Energia Costa Azul regasification plant. In 2020, the company made an FID on the first phase (2.4 Mt/year), which is expected to be commissioned in 2025.
