Engineering and construction company McDermott International has been selected to develop the Manatee gas field development project in Trinidad and Tobago by Shell. Under the contract with Shell, McDermott will design, procure, fabricate, hook up and commission a platform and jacket for the project as well as design, install, and commission an 81 cm gas pipeline to connect the platform to a gas processing facility operated by Shell. The contract also includes the design, procurement, installation, and testing services for a fiber optic cable.
In July 2024, Shell Trinidad and Tobago Limited, a subsidiary of the global oil and gas company Shell, took a final investment decision (FID) for the development of the Manatee gas field, located 100 km off the southeast coast of Trinidad and Tobago. The field’s reserves are estimated at 2.7 Tcf (76 bcm) of natural gas, with Shell aiming to start gas production from Manatee in 2027, and to reach a peak production of 604 mcf/d (6.2 bcm/year).
