Mazarine Energy has agreed to acquire Black Sea Oil & Gas, Romania’s largest offshore gas producer, from Carlyle and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) (Mazarine Energy, 29/10/2026). BSOG operates the Midia Gas Development, comprising the Ana offshore platform, a 126 km subsea pipeline and the Vadu gas treatment plant. The project produces more than 100 mcf/d, equivalent to around 1 bcm/year, and supplied 12% of Romania’s gas output in the first half of 2026. The transaction remains subject to regulatory approval.
Romania is the second largest gas producer in the European Union, after the Netherlands. Gas production dipped by 0.9% to 9.2 bcm in 2025, after having increased by 1%/year between 2020 and 2024 thanks to new fields coming on stream (Black Sea Oil and Gas's Ana and Doina fields in the Midia gas development (MGD) in 2022) (Enerdata's Global Energy Research)
