The Electric Distribution Companies (EDCs) from Massachusetts (United States) have filed for regulatory approval of long-term contracts covering 1.12 GW of BESS capacity under the state’s first storage procurement round (Massachusetts Clean Energy press release, 02/07/2026).
The contracts, submitted to the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities, cover three projects: Jupiter Power’s 700 MW Trimount ESS and Flatiron Energy’s Energizar (250 MW) and Salt Cod (168 MW) projects. The projects were selected in December 2025 as part of a broader solicitation awarding 1.27 GW across four projects.
The filings mark a key step towards finalising long-term agreements for the first round of storage procurement. In parallel, the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources has requested approval for a request for proposals for a second round of the energy storage procurement.
According to Enerdata’s Global Energy Research, US storage capacity would reach 31 GW by 2030 from 17 GW at the end of 2025.
