Masdar signs deal for 1 GW round-the-clock clean energy in Uzbekistan

Masdar has signed a cooperation agreement with Emirates Utilities Development Company (EUDC) and the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Uzbekistan to develop a gigascale renewable energy project providing round-the-clock power (Masdar press release, 22/01/2026).

The planned project is expected to deliver up to 1 GW of baseload capacity, with JSC Uzbekenergosotish, the state-owned utility, acting as the offtaker.

The project will expand Masdar’s renewable energy portfolio in Uzbekistan to around 2 GW of clean energy capacity, with total investments exceeding US$2bn. "Most recently, in November 2025, Masdar signed a Battery Storage Services Agreement with JSC Uzbekenergosotish to develop the nation’s largest standalone battery energy storage system (BESS), with a capacity of 300 MW / 600 MWh in the Navoi Region,” the company stated.

According to Masdar, the CIS region is a strategic market, as the company aims for a global portfolio capacity of 100 GW by 2030. Beyond Uzbekistan, Masdar maintains an active presence in Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and other countries.

This announcement follows Masdar reaching financial close for the Guzar hybrid project, which includes a 300 MW solar plant and 75 MWh BESS in Kashkadarya, in Uzbekistan. Masdar will design, build, and operate the solar and storage components under a Public-Private Partnership agreement with JSC National Electric Grid of Uzbekistan (KEI, 21/01/2026).
