Masdar expands in Spain with acquisition of 705 MW renewable portfolio

Repsol and the UAE-based Masdar have signed an agreement under which Masdar will acquire a 49.99% stake in a renewable energy portfolio located in Spain. The transaction values the assets at EUR849m (Masdar press release, 11/06/2026).

The portfolio includes 705 MW of operational capacity, made up of 13 wind farms (402 MW) and six photovoltaic solar parks (303 MW), all of which became operational in 2025 and Q1 2026. It also contains more than 565 MW of potential hybridisation pipeline growth, including wind, solar, and battery storage components.

“Spain is one of Europe’s fastest-growing major economies, and renewable energy is playing a critical role in powering that growth” stated the CEO of Masdar.

This transaction is part of Repsol’s renewable strategy, which aims to optimise its financial structure, accelerate growth through strategic partnerships, and rotate part of its asset portfolio. It represents the company’s eighth renewable asset rotation, totalling 3,850 MW in Spain and the United States, according to Repsol’s press release. The company currently operates 6 GW of renewable capacity.

For Masdar, the acquisition aligns with its strategy of partnering with industry leaders to scale renewable deployment globally, as it targets 100 GW of installed capacity by 2030. Once completed, the deal will bring its operational capacity in the Iberian Peninsula to 4.1 GW, with around 1 GW under development.

The transaction is expected to close toward the end of 2026, subject to standard regulatory approvals.
