Masdar buys a 50% stake in a 1.6 GW portfolio of US renewable projects

Masdar has achieved the first closing on the acquisition of a 50% stake in a 1.6 GW renewable project portfolio in the United States from EDF. As agreed in August 2020, Masdar has acquired an interest in five solar PV projects in California totalling 689 MW, two of which include BESS totalling 75 MW, and three utility-scale wind power plants in Nebraska and Texas totalling 815 MW.

Four solar PV projects are already operational in Riverside County, California, namely 173 MW Maverick-1, 136 MW Maverick-4, Desert Harvest 1 and Desert Harvest 2 that total 213 MW of solar and include 35 MW/140 MWh of BES. The 166 MW Big Beau solar PV project, located in Kern County, includes a 40 MW/160 MWh BESS, and will reach commercial operation in December 2021. The three wind projects are currently under construction and expected to begin commercial operations in the first quarter of 2021. The 243 MW Coyote wind project is located in Scurry County, Texas, the 273 MW Las Majadas wind project in Willacy County, Texas and the 300 MW Milligan 1 wind project in Saline County, Nebraska.
