Masdar acquires stake in the 3 GW Dogger Bank South offshore wind project (UK)

The Emirati renewable energy company Masdar has completed the acquisition of a 49% stake owned by Germany’s RWE in the 3 GW Dogger Bank South (DBS) offshore wind project, located off the north-eastern coast of England (United Kingdom). RWE will retain a 51% operating stake in the project.

The DBS project, to be located 100 km from England’s north-eastern coast in the North Sea, will be split into two sites of 1.5 GW each, DBS East and DBS West, that are expected to generate enough power to supply about 3 million UK households. The submission of development consent orders is expected in the second quarter of 2024. Once approved, the projects will proceed to secure contracts for difference, arrange financing, commence construction and aim for commissioning by 2031.

The United Kingdom aims to reach 50 GW of installed offshore wind capacity by 2030 (13.8 GW as of end 2022).
