Marubeni-led consortium commissions a 125 MW solar power plant in Oman

The Indian company Sterling and Wilson Solar has completed the construction of a 125 MW solar power plant in Oman. The plant is owned and operated by Amin Renewable Energy, a Japanese-Omani consortium of Marubeni, Oman Gas, Bahwan Renewable Energy and Nebras Power. As of May 2020, Oman had only 8 MW of solar, for a total capacity of 10.6 GW.

In May 2020, Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) decided to go ahead with the development of the 1 GW Miraah solar thermal (CSP) power project in southern Oman, despite the liquidation of its technology partner GlassPoint Solar, which was building and operating the project. The Miraah CSP project will include 36 glasshouses commissioned in modules of four and will have a capacity of 1,021 MW. Steam will be used for enhanced oil recovery (EOR) at the nearby Amal oilfield, operated by Shell. Construction started in October 2015, and 4 units of the plant were commissioned in February 2018.
