Mark Cables completes 200 MW thermal power plant in Burkina Faso

Dubai-based Mark Cables has completed a 200 MW thermal power plant in Burkina Faso. The €180m (US$213m) power plant will likely be fuelled by heavy fuel oil (HFO). The fuel type, location, timeline for full commissioning, and details on the power purchase agreement with the national power utility Sonabel were not disclosed.

The power plant aims to stabilise the national grid and reduce import dependence. It aims to address the country’s electricity deficit, where only 20% of the population has grid access, and to help Sonabel reduce power shortages. Burkina Faso currently relies on energy imports from neighbouring West African states.
