MAN wins order for two power plants in Lebanon (272 MW)

MAN Diesel & Turbo will supply a total of 14 engines (18V48/60 engines) for two new power plants in Lebanon which will in future produce electricity for the state-owned supply company Électricité du Liban. The diesel combined cycle power plants will have an efficiency of more than 48% in total. In addition to the engines, the order from MAN Diesel & Turbo also comprises kits for converting the engines to gas-powered operation: as soon as the region’s gas infrastructure is up and running, the engines will be switched to dual-fuel capability, allowing them to be operated both with liquid as well gaseous fuels. The order for the consortium is worth approximately €270m (US$345m).

The power plants, which will deliver an output of 194 MW and 78 MW respectively, are being built by a consortium comprising the Danish power plant specialist Burmeister & Wain Scandinavian Contractor (BWSC) and MAN Diesel & Turbo in Zouk and Jiyeh, near Beirut. The two power plants will be handed over Électricité du Liban and the Lebanese Ministry for Energy and Water in 2014.
