Mainstream will develop two wind projects in the Philippines totalling 440 MW

The renewable energy company Mainstream Renewable Power has signed two contracts with the Philippines’ Department of Energy to develop two onshore wind power projects totalling a combined capacity of 440 MW. The contracts provide Mainstream with exclusive development rights for the 100 MW Santa Ana Cagayan Wind Project, located in the Municipality of Santa Ana, Cagayan Province, and the 340 MW Panaon Wind Project, located on Panaon Island in the Leyte Province. The projects have already begun early-stage development activities.

The Philippines aims to bring the share or renewables in the power generation mix to 35% by 2030 and 50% by 2040. Renewables represent 23% of the Philippine’s power mix (2022), of which 10% from geothermal, 9% from hydro, 2% from solar, and 1% each from wind and biomass. The country possessed 427 MW of onshore wind capacity (no offshore wind) at the end of 2022.
