Indian multinational Larsen & Toubro (L&T), through its Renewables business, has secured an order to develop three BESS projects in the Middle East with a combined storage capacity of 6 GWh. The projects should include associated grid infrastructure, such as pooling substations and underground cables (L&T press release, 25/08/2026).
Each project is designed to feature a four-hour BESS designed to store electricity during periods of surplus renewable generation and dispatch it during peak demand periods. According to L&T, the facilities are anticipated to support grid stability, facilitate greater renewable energy integration and contribute to ongoing grid modernisation efforts across the region.
The battery systems are planned to incorporate liquid-cooling technology, aimed at increasing power density, enhancing operational safety and extending asset lifetime. The company added that the projects involve stringent requirements related to performance, workforce mobilisation, safety, quality and delivery schedules.
The contracts fall within an INR5bn (USD570m) to INR10bn (USD1.1bn) range and are expected to strengthen L&T's position in the growing energy storage engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) market.
