LNG Alliance plans a 5.4 bcm LNG import terminal in Mangalore (India)

New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT), which operates the New Mangalore Port in Mangalore, Karnataka (India), has signed a cooperation agreement with Singapore-based LNG Alliance to build a 4 Mt/year (5.4 bcm/year) LNG import terminal, which could be expanded to 8 Mt/year (10.8 bcm/year) at a later stage. The Singaporean company plans to invest US$290m by 2025 to develop, build, and operate a Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU), and manage the LNG supply. The project will be developed under a tolling fee-based model and open for third party access.

The LNG regasification capacity in India reached 65 bcm/year in October 2021, spread over 7 terminals: Dahej (Petronet, 24 bcm/year), Hazira (100% owned by Shell since 2019, 6.8 bcm/year), Dabhol (under the control of GAIL since the demerger of Ratnagiri Gas and Power (RGPPL), 6.8 bcm/year), Kochi (Petronet, Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum, GAIL, Engie and ADB, 6.8 bcm/year), Ennore (Ennore LNG, 6.8 bcm/year, since 2019), Mundra in Gujarat (6.8 bcm/year, consortium associating GSPC 50%, Adani 25%, IOCL 25%, since 2020) and Jaigarh (H-Energy, 8.1 bcm/year since 2021).
