Lightsource bp has referred its 600 MW Narrogin East Renewable energy project in Western Australia for assessment under the federal Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation (EPBC) Act (EPBC press release, 22/09/2026).
The estimated AUD800m (USD562m) project combines 250 MW of wind capacity, 150 MW of solar PV and a 200 MW/800 MWh BESS. Located about 8 km east of Narrogin, the project includes approximately 35 wind turbines and 246,000 PV modules across a 4,481-hectare development area. Infrastructure is planned mainly on previously cleared agricultural land, with the project footprint covering around 470 hectares.
The facility is designed to connect to an existing 220 kV Western Power transmission line crossing the site, limiting additional grid infrastructure. Required approvals are targeted by mid-2027. Once operational, the project is expected to generate electricity equivalent to the annual consumption of approximately 133,000 homes.
Narrogin East forms part of a wave of large renewable energy projects around the Wheatbelt town. These include Ace Power’s approved 200 MW solar and 200 MW/400 MWh battery project and TagEnergy’s 200 MW/800 MWh Narrogin BESS.
