Lietuvos Energija seeks partners for offshore wind projects (Lithuania)

State-run Lithuanian holding company Lietuvos Energija has issued an Expression of Interest (EoI) process to select an experienced partner for the development of new offshore wind projects in the Baltic Sea. Interested players have until the end of 2019 to submit their proposal. In case of a successful cooperation agreement, the partnership will then be set up through a two-stage process. Tenders

In 2018, Lietuvos Energija adopted its 2030 strategy, aiming at reaching 3,000 MW of installed renewable capacity over the next 12 years, including 1,650 MW of wind, 1,190 MW of solar and 160 MW of biofuel and waste power generation. To reach this objective, the company needs to find a partner with a proven track record, who would bring best practices and expertise in building offshore wind projects.

The Lithuanian National Energy Independence Strategy (LEIS) was approved by the Parliament (Seimas) in June 2018. It aims to raise the share of renewable energy sources to 70% of the domestic electricity production and 45% of the country’s electricity consumption by 2030, one of the strategy's key objective being to end Lithuania's energy dependence on Russia. The Law on Energy from Renewable Sources was amended in December 2018 to enable renewable power auctions. The first one could be a technology-neutral tender for projects providing 300 GWh/year, with developers competing for premiums to day-ahead market prices; winners would be announced in the first quarter of 2020.
