Iberdrola Ingeneria has awarded GE the supply contract for the installation of a gas turbine at Vattenfall’s Lichterfelde combined-cycle plant in Germany. GE will provide the advanced technology 9F gas turbine which delivers power with high efficiency, availability, reliability and low emissions. In addition, GE will provide operations and maintenance of the turbine for 25 years.
Lichterfelde-A is a CCGT project developed by Vattenfall (construction contract awarded to Iberdrola, which has already begun work on the deep foundations). With its 300 MWe capacity (the 260 MW GE gas turbine plus a 40 MW electric turbine) and 225 MWth capacity, the plant will supply Berlin’s Southwest with electricity and district heating. The new combined-cycle gas turbine power plant will replace an existing thermal power plant operating on the site since 1974. The new unit is expected to be commissioned in 2016.
