Lake Charles LNG, the project company jointly owned by Shell and the US pipeline company Energy Transfer, has issued a commercial tender package to EPC contractors for its 16.5 Mt/year liquefaction project in Lake Charles, Louisiana (United States). The company expects to receive commercial bids in the second quarter of 2020.
The proposed LNG plant will include the construction of three 5.5 Mt/year liquefaction trains and is expected to use the existing LNG storage and marine berthing facilities owned by Energy Transfer. The project was approved by the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) in December 2015. The final investment decision (FID) was expected in 2016 but was postponed by Shell in August 2016, due to worst-than-expected quarterly results and financial charges related to the acquisition of the BG Group. The FID is still pending and the project is not expected to be commissioned before 2024-2025.
