Oil and gas company Kosmos Energy expects to sign an agreement by the end of 2019 to reduce its stakes in the Greater Tortue and Ahmeyim gas fields off the coasts of Mauritania and Senegal. The Greater Tortue and Ahmeyim fields are estimated to hold around 15 tcf (around 425 bcm) of gas. The governments of Senegal and Mauritania signed an agreement in February 2018 to equally split resources, taxes and revenues. Kosmos Energy holds a 30% stake in Senegal and 28% in Mauritania and received expressions of interest to reduce its stake in 2019. The company is targetting to reduce its share in the project to 10%.
Kosmos Energy and its partner BP made a final investment decision (FID) on the first phase of the Greater Tortue-Ahmeyim offshore gas project in December 2018. Gas production will be processed in a 2.5 Mt/year floating LNG (FLNG) plant. Construction will start in 2019 at the earliest and commissioning will begin in 2022.
