Kosmos Energy announces new significant gas discovery off Senegal

US upstream oil and gas company Kosmos Energy has made a new significant gas discovery in Senegal, in its Teranga-1 exploration well offshore Senegal.

The company has drilled five consecutive successful exploration and appraisal wells in the gas fairway extending from the Marsouin-1 well in Mauritania through the Greater Tortue area on the maritime boundary to the Teranga-1 well in Senegal, with a 100% success rate. In the process, the company has discovered a gross Pmean resource of approximately 25 Tcf (705 bcm) and estimates the fairway may hold more than 50 Tcf (more than 1,400 bcm) of resource potential. Kosmos holds a 60% interest in the Teranga-1 well, along with Timis Corporation (30%) and Société des Pétroles du Sénégal (Petrosen, 10%).

Earlier in 2016, Kosmos Energy announced large discoveries in the Greater Tortue Complex straddling the maritime boundary of Senegal and Mauritania.
